If you are building yourself then there are many options out there from GoDaddy, Wix, 1and1 etc..these are templated sites and you can upload your imagery and content and very quickly start to build a website.
Do you have your marketing strategy sorted for 2023 and does it drive through to your marketing plan, marketing tools and is it cohesive with your sales objectives? This is a huge subject, and I will be covering different elements over the next few weeks but let’s start with your marketing strategy. So, what is a marketing strategy? I like to keep things simple, so here are my 6 Steps to Marketing Success.
9 Website Essentials To Improve Your business Enquiries We often overlook our website but with it working 365 days and 24 hours per day we really should be giving it much more attention. I’ve listed below 10 Top ways to get more business enquiries from your website.
t’s no surprise with all the negativity around that businesses are starting to reduce their spend on everything and that means your business is likely to be getting squeezed too. So, you basically have two choices, do nothing and watch your business start to go into free fall or introduce new business. How do you get new business? The easiest way of getting new business is from existing customers, they trust you and you are on their systems already, so it’s easy for them to work with you too. Can you resell to them? Can you introduce them to new products or services? Visit them, email and call them today and you will start to see results.
I talk with a lot of business owners about how much time they spend on their business, and you will be surprised that the vast majority of business owners and leaders spend virtually no time on their business, except maybe when they are doing a budget or a forecast for the bank or accountant. It’s obviously very important to get a balance between working in and working on your business as clearly if you spend all your time thinking up great ideas but not actually executing them, then you’re not going to get the right results. I often liken it to getting into a helicopter and getting up high and above the business, this way you can see the overview of exactly what is happening in your business.
It’s probably something that you haven’t down for a while, if ever at all. Firstly, identify all the touch points of your business on both existing and new customers. Essentially looking at all forms of communication and is the information relevant and up-to-date.
This week we are going to discuss “Standing Out From The Crowd” and truly understanding your USP.(Unique Selling Point) When I ask my clients what is your USP? They can really struggle to identify what it is that makes their business unique.
The headline may be a bit misleading as we all want the conversion from our website visitors but actually the primary driver is generating traffic to your website. Without significant traffic there is simply not enough critical mass to actually create any enquiries. So, firstly let’s look at how we can send visitors to our website.
This week we are looking at your customers journey and why understanding their behaviour is so important. When we talk about the customer journey, we are essentially talking about their journey towards doing business with your company, where did they come from and how did they find our company? It is vital that we know where every enquiry into our business came from, the best way to do this is to ask your customers how did they find you? and record that information so you can look at the statistics at the end of the period.
I often hear “we can do business with anyone!” and the client is usually really pleased with this response as they believe they must have a huge number of opportunities. Of course, it’s actually one of the worst responses we want to hear as it usually means the client hasn’t thought about how they can communicate with the diversity within the audience. Whilst it may be possible that you can deal with anyone, the most important thing to do is to segment down the data or identify a specific target market that you would like to approach, by doing this you can then create communications that are more relevant to the audience that you are targeting.
I hope you find the content interesting, informative and that it will inspire you to do great marketing within your business. I will be picking new topics each week that will be following the fundamentals of making marketing work for your business. In this first notebook I’m going to go through the “Vision” that you have for the business and also the “why”.
What does social mean for your business? Or actually what does it mean for potential customers looking at your online presence. When we consider our customer journey, we need to consider the effect of what they are looking at when online, this would typically be your social media accounts and of course your website.
One of the first things a potential new client will do before working with your company is look at your presence online and typically that will involve looking at your website. There are a number of key essential elements that your website must project on behalf of your company.
I’ve recently come across a lot of businesses that are doing some activities on LinkedIn that not only not optimising their LinkedIn marketing but actually damaging their performance and with that in mind I thought I would post a few Don’ts for LinkedIn users.
What is your USP? Don’t’ say, quality, great service, affordable prices, these are not unique selling points, they are in fact expected from you. So, what makes your business stand out from others around you? This is one of the most important aspects of your business that you really need to get a grip of.
Assuming your website is built correctly then the main factor effecting your website performance is TRAFFIC But not any traffic, it is critical that you attract the right audience to your website then converting them will be 100 percent easier.
You need to start to create posts that are relevant to your audience. Here are some posting ideas: • Video testimonials from your customers • Before and after images • Educating posts about your services • New services & product launches • Inspiring posts • Project images • Market / industry information
When you are thinking about marketing the very first thing you need to consider is your vision. What vision to do you have for your marketing and what outcomes are you looking to achieve. These need to be interlinked with your sales activities, for example you would like to sell more widgets, then these widgets need to be part of the marketing campaign.
It’s not surprising as bounce bank and C bill loans are being repaid and the furlough support has now ended. So, it’s important you get really focused into generating new business for your business. We recommend setting up a monthly planner and scheduling all of the marketing activities that you intend to communicate.
As with social media, your website should be bringing in enquiries to your business, and it should be giving off powerful messages about business too. Trust, experience, capability and that you exist and are ready to do business right now.
You might think so, but your customers will pigeonhole you as a provider of “x”. Therefore, its vitally important you keep your customers informed about all your services, not all at the same time but one service/product at a time and keep regularly communication the benefits of these services.
I was with a client last week and I was talking to them about the 4 pillars of marketing and they are pillars because they hold up everything we do, and they work today as they worked in the pre digital era.
Always think about how you can add value to the person reading your posts, this will encourage them to follow you and your business. Make the most of the social media exposure available to you, this could be all your company pages and some of your personal accounts too.
Is your website communicating with your CRM? With technology today it is possible for a huge amount of data to cross between your website and your CRM. Why is this important? Data is king and understanding the performance of your website is critical to understanding how you can get the optimum value from it.
Would you like to improve your conversion rate from enquiry through to customer? The first thing you need to do is understand your current conversion rate. Quite simply, this is the total number of enquiries into your business divided by the total number of customers that came from those enquiries. This is called the conversion rate. Industry averages vary on the conversion rate, but the range is between 20% - 25%. Yes, that’s just around less than a quarter of enquires end up as customers. This sounds like a disastrous number and certainly it’s nothing to be proud of.
Do you want to get to number 1 on Google for your services? A lot of companies claim they can do this for you, but the truth is most are just lying. So, what is the secret? There are no short cuts, and the first thing is: Your Website Google will search your website to see how well it matches the searches that are being made on it. There are potentially millions of search returns that Google can give to the person searching for a service, so why will it show your services?
One of the key things to keep a business continually growing is having a marketing machine working in the background. That doesn’t mean you need to have a team of people, but it does require that your creative output and communication stays ahead of the curve, and you are not constantly getting behind and chasing your tail. Do you think Coca Cola get up in the morning and think “What shall we post today?” Of course not, in fact the bigger the corporation you will find the further ahead they are planning just because of the logistics in the delivery.
Does your brand need an evolution or revolution? This will depend on whether you have a clear understanding of your brands positioning. When you set up your business you may have had a different idea about the direction and now your brand doesn’t seem to represent you or your values.
Are you settling for modest Business Growth? It’s funny because the majority of business owners want significant business growth but don’t make significant changes in their approach to get different results. We all know the saying coined by Albert Einstein “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results” Be honest with yourself, is that you? Do you need a game changer?
Are you machine gun marketing? You may be getting some results but for sure you will be overspending on your marketing budget and worse you could be looking desperate. Put down your machine gun and start to segment out your prospects and customers and identify the audience for your marketing messages. If you’re sending to prospects, then understand how to message them. • 3% ready to buy • 7% might buy soon • 30% would like to buy but not right now • 30% not interested • 30% never will be interested
Is LinkedIn working for you? Are you attracting clients? Read on and transform your LinkedIn performance. There are a few critical elements to making LinkedIn work for you and they are: • Great Profile • Interesting Posts • Active Targeted Messaging • Investing time in LinkedIn Of course, there are many more things that can be done on LinkedIn, but the essentials need to be in place first. If you are doing the above right and investing time each day, then LinkedIn will deliver the results for you. If you are struggling to find time, then contact me and we can discuss our Profile Enhancement and Prospector Packages that will completely transform your LinkedIn performance and If you don’t believe me just read my recommendations on my profile.
Are you in danger from “The One” or indeed “The Special One”.. Sorry Jose One is a very risky and dangerous place to be in many respects: • 1 Major customer • 1 Major supplier • 1 Salesperson • 1 Method of lead generation So being aware of the risk is important but obviously if you can take action to change the risk then this automatically makes for more sustainable business. In the examples above, actually starting to increase the number of ways you generate leads and enquiries for your business can impact on all of the other three areas. More leads, equals more customers, equals more salespeople and that in turn can lead to the ability to have more suppliers.
Do you feel organised? Click on the link below and print off our daily planner. We are creative here at Joseph Creative but being highly organised is still the secret to our success. The planner allows you to prioritise urgent and non-urgent tasks as well as keeping on top of your emails and LinkedIn activity. True or false: SEO is dead… In terms of trying to get to the top spot on Google then yes, SEO is completely dead. Kaput. Beyond the veil. It’s bitten the dust. The reason being, the top 4 spots are for Google Ads only and they are the spots that generate the biggest revenues for businesses. There are however, some basic things you could be doing to improve your ranking. Google uses a system known as PageRank, named after Larry Page Co-Founder of Google. PageRank ensures all search results on Google are of the highest quality and relevance.
How is your focus? Unsurprisingly, when we really focus, we achieve our goals. However, we just don’t focus on the big business issues enough. Therefore, we don’t perform as well as we could even though we know it’s our focus that’s ‘out of focus’. A simple fix is to establish our goals, write them down and stay focused on achieving them. With a 90-day plan, we encourage ourselves to focus daily on those goals.
So, we have a roadmap out of lockdown, but is your business and your brand top of mind when people think about the product or services you offer? With non-essential services having a date when they can reopen, things are looking up!
So, what are the most important personal skills we need in business? For me it’s very boring but organisation and discipline are vital for everything else to function properly. There is no point having great ideas if you lack the discipline to execute them. Being organised allows you to manage your time properly and see the important business issues. Without organisation, these can slip through the net.
How do you really reach the top spot, on Google? Unfortunately, SEO won’t cut it as the top four spots are always paid for. So, if you are going to pay, it’s essential you look at and understand what the return on investment will be.
Where is your 2021 business plan right now? Is it in a drawer gathering dust? Perhaps it’s saved as a spreadsheet somewhere and you’ve not opened it once since you created it? We are creatures of habit and even with the best intentions, we are unlikely to start reviewing our performance against a new plan and maintain that for a whole 365 days.
Is your social media not feeling very social at the moment? Are you finding it hard to sell? If so, have a look to see if you are implementing the 5/2 system or are all your posts looking for the hard sell?
How much should you typically allocate to your marketing budget if you want to be successful? The first thing you need to explore in answer to this question is the Lifetime Value (LTV) of one of your customers, versus the cost of acquiring a new one.
What is a marketing strategy? The answer is simpler than you’d imagine! A marketing strategy is when you planned to do something. Randomly doing different things without a plan or an understanding of the outcomes you want to achieve will get you nowhere.

Do you know the top performing marketing activities in 2021? Are you looking for the silver bullet? I think the key to your what marketing activities you should be doing will depend on what sectors of the market you are selling into and for the purpose of this post let’s assume its B2B. The big mistake most SME’s make is they try one marketing activity at a time and then don’t give it long enough to actually work, the business owner very often expects results far too quickly from just one activity and then stops and then tries something else, repeat, repeat, repeat. Each time looking for the silver bullet.
